Default Audio wiring

I posted this in another section and got no help so hopefully this section will be able to help.

I have a short in one of the speaker wires for the front driver side speaker. The short is somewhere in the rubber boot between the door and body. I was planning on splicing into the wired on the body side (hopefully behind the short) and run my own wire back out to the speaker. I have some new Pioneer speakers on order so I will have to cut the wire anyway to add the new connectors (No I don't want to buy the Metra adapter because 50% of their wires are backwards and it is just as easy to solder a new wire in)
So my question is, where does the wire run to once it enters the body? Does it go up behind the dash to the head unit? Does one of them run out the firewall? I cannot track these two wires down anywhere. Also if anyone knows which wire is positive and negative that would be great too. Thanks.

BTW truck is a 2003 FX4 SCAB

They all meet at the back of the headunit. You can wire in there, or you can open up the kick panel and try to find it.

Do you know if this truck has a factory amp or not? I've heard if I do it would be behind the HVAC panel below the dash. I'm at work so don't have time to tear it apart and look right now

Unless you have a lariat/ early model 97-98 you don't have an outboard amp. Even if you did, I would by pass it and run new wire to all 4 door speakers. An aftermarket headunit will sound much clearer than our outdated systems.

Thanks for your help! I have the Pioneer DEH-X7500S head unit and 4 Pioneer TS-A6885R speakers in the mail from Amazon, cannot wait to get them all in and hooked up. Sounds like I should just rerun all new wire to them. Hopefully it doesn't take too long.

It's not bad. Running through the grommets in the door is the most time consuming part.

Believe it or not, I'm running the original external amp with my JVC head unit's low level RCA jacks - and with Rockford Fosgates in the rear, and of all things, the SEALED STOCK Ford/JBL 2-ways in the doors, and they sound GREAT. The Metra harness I got from Crutchfield was correct. For 5x7/6x8 stock sizes, they do sound much better than stock. If I had tome to mod the rear sections, REAL woofers of 8" and up would have been much better, without the need to go with a bigger external amp.

Any chance there is another color scheme?
My left front speaker wires are (+) orangeish with a blueish line and (-) is blueish/greenish with a grayish/whiteish line. I use "ish" because the wires are old and look dirty. Also, those 2 wires do not show up at the head unit. I looked at the wires before the plugs
