Question Antifreeze problem

New to the forum...and to F150's...

I've got a 98 w the 4.6...little over 112k on it.

Bout 2 weeks ago on my way to work and under load i started to smell antifreeze in the cabin. Got to work, came out 8 hours later to see a pretty large puddle of rust colored antifreeze? under the the front end of the truck.

Checked the coolant level and everything looked fine, drove home n watched the temp gauge but everything seemed normal. Took it in to have the cooling system flushed (as a precaution i guess), they flushed it 3 times because they said the stuff coming out looked like mud! Pressure tested the system and said it was ok.

Today I was on my way to the gym, and got the same smell in the cabin but this time after i parked there was white smoke/steam coming from the air vents!

After about 2 hours i drove back home with no problems. I'm kinda confused about what could be wrong with the truck...heater core?

This isn't a constant thing either, only get the AF smell when under load...and there hasn't been any dripping on passenger floor :/

Looking for any advice or something I can check myself before i take it into the shop...Thanks in advance!

Default anti-freeze smell

Very possibly you have a heater core failure. Same thing happened to my 97. Get out your wallet.

j.low is correct. The only way to get antifreeze in the cabin is heater core failure.

I was told before it could either be heater core or intake gaskets....was hoping for the less expensive.

Droppin it off at the shop tonight....

I have fluid on the carpet, I was wondering if it could be a connection or hose leaking?
