Default Another Win

So a few months ago I drive a few thousand miles after an oil change and noticed I was 2 quarts down. I fumbled around these pages and someone mentioned changing the PCV. Took 5 minutes. Just did a couple thousand after this oil change and no oil loss. So simple. Thanks folks.

Yea they do that. The Motorcraft valves have the widest margins. 3rd party valves are restrictive.

It was always common for these engines to use some oil
designed with insufficient ring tension I read once

Ford has it as normal to use 1 qt per thousand miles lol. I don't think so, - perhaps they say that because it won't hurt them to use that much. I'm not sure, I am sure that is what they say. The topic has come up on many sites in the past. That could hurt the wallet, specially if you figure it annually lol.

I change it out every 3000 miles, so far my engine doesn't use oil between changes. I could go longer between changes, but it's habit.

So you're saying going with 3rd party?

Stay away from 3rd party. Third party valves can literally give these trucks the farts. Well, Fram valves are a little gassy anyway. Past experience lol.

They need to breath, Motorcraft valves have the proper openning.

Ok wasn't sure if restrictive was good or bad when it came to the pcv lol. My truck gets thirsty every now and again, probably wouldn't hurt to check that

I'd replace the valve and the hose all at once, it's not that much more and prevents that damn elbow from rotting out... kinda like killing two birds with a pcv valve.... errr....
