No I didn't buy a built harness. I've been doing this for years, but this head has an internal power problem. I tested each wire with a meter, and had power thru each one when tested, so it isn't the harness. It's not the fuses either, checked. There is a complaint about these coming out of the box without working. There was 2 on eBay last week, selling because they didn't power on. Brand new heads, identical even in name. That is when I got serious about checking each wire. It must just be a poor (new design sucks) that they redid. I would of liked the one in my picture I ordered, rather than what was shipped as a new updated replacement.
The second yellow wire went to the #19 pin on the J1 plug (24 pin system, not the F150 config). This was the positive for the steering wheel redundant controls. The other wire went to the return side, or the #18 wire. Since nothing came with the radio that matched the head, it was a bit of a headache. I found a Punpu (sic) radio, that is identical and it had the help I needed. I had everything right on the other parts (how can you screw up speakers, lol), so it was just he swc's that were there and nothing referenceing them. Oh well, I figured it out.
Sounds like you've covered your bases trouble shooting. Sucks it came in DOA. They at least working with you on replacements? I had a situation where I had to eat a head unit...
Still setting up torque, It's getting there. This radio is just to much, I mean I just sat in my driveway with the truck off but with the key on for an hour.
This is a screenshot from the radio btw.

I'm hoping they send him a new one. He's gonna love this thing.
The seller says no problem to a return, but today i went to the Post Office, and it's 67 to ship to China. Unbelievable. I immediately contacted Amazon, and they have stepped in and requested the seller to send a return authorization form with postage. I'm waiting for the 17 hour difference to catch up and find out if they agree or if Amazon refunds me and requests the head be sent to them for some reason. I don't care, and hope that they just send another replacement. i gave that option to them today, as I really want to get this one in. Besides, I've already have a plug in ready to go. LOL.
Anyways, thanks guys for the consideration on this item. I really think that once I get a head that has power, I'll be like a kid in the candy store. Just like Zebracakes. I know he's enjoying the playing around. I see that he's already adapted Torque to the red screen. I really hate the grey/black/white default screen. Z/cakes, have you installed your own home screen yet? If not, think of the coolest scene you've taken, and upload it and make it your homescreen. I love playing with Android systems. Which one does yours have? 4.4.4? The head I ordered is 4.2, which I wanted. There are a couple programs that work in Jelly Bean, that won't work in Kit Kat. I'm waiting for the next fix, then I'll update the system to Kit Kat.

I downloaded the google now launcher to try it, and have yet to set a background. My radio came with 4.4.4 stock, but the day I got it I flashed the best rom I could find for these radios. It uses a file format that allows the whole 16gb memory to be shared between everything. So no 1gb apps partion anymore. Here's a link in case your into this sorta thing. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...ostcount=12068
Yes you can. Most of these units you'll find will have built in wifi, so you can tether your phone for internet. Or if you'd rather buy a usb modem from a carrier that's supported too.
Does your head have Bluetooth included? If so, use that to use your phone, rather than WiFi when on the road. Depending on some plans, you could eat up some very large amounts of your bandwith allowance. Using WiFi, everyone can use the tether of your phone for their tablets and such, which is very 21st Century, I like that idea, but it could be expensive. The Bluetooth is direct, so there is no cost of bandwith use.
If you don't have BT installed, you can get an inexpensive dongle on eBay or Amazon. You also have direct access to anything on your phone or the internet, without chance of another person hacking you also. These are just the perfect set up for cars/trucks now days. It's like having your computer with you. If you were to break down on the high way, and still have cell reception, you could find the way to fix your vechicle right then and there. Maybe enough to get home or down the way to someone who could. The limits are basically limitless. You might even have a Service Manual on on SD/TF card and either have it for ready install, or you could have it inserted into a card hub for easy access and switching between different cards. Mass makes a great little inexpensive hub for card reader/USB ports and micro USB port. It's an ideal little hub for 15 or so. It's worth looking at. JMO, of course.
When you talk of the modem idea, here is the one I have ready for use with a tablet. It is the Asus WL-330N3G. It is designed for this kind of use. It is only about 4x1.5x.5 in size, so very small and quite usable for this head if it is needed. It is needed with most tablets to set them up as a hotspot, so this is why I have this handly. Once I get a head set up and working, I'll check it for it's uses, then decide which accessorties I'm going to add to it. This is so darn adaptable. I do have a complete tablet (nexus 7, 2012) ready for install. I have it completely working with sw controls, hubs, 128GB memory card, and a few other items for personal pleasure. The factory Android radios are a much neater, and more compact design that the tablet and all the goodies that need to go with it. This is why I want to go with this head I ordered. I like this possiblity. Very universal, if I say so myself.

Did that article say anything about leaving the 1 or bit bigger section, for adding additional RAM? You seem to be on top of this, so I'll quit giving more ideas then. I didn't know if you were an Andriod or iOS kind of guy. You've shown your colors. lol. Very kewl. Keep up the good work Zebracakes.

I was reading the other day and the guy said he took a 32GB flash drive, and put in the 1GB section which somehow is dedicated to RAM. I'll find it again and post it up if you are interested.

That would be neat but I don't think its possible. The 1gb section your probably thinking of is where android store the apps / app data. Witch with the rom I installed, it used the full 16gb for everything. The folder are linked together in a sense.
