Default Alternator took a dump, need to replace

So I know it's been a long time coming, (voltage has been reading low for quite some time) it is finally to the point where I can't drive the truck without fear of it shutting down somewhere. Headlights draw too much power, etc. So I need to replace it, but want something better than stock obviously.

Recommendations that won't break the bank? Not in any hurry so I can order online if I need to. Also is it a 6 rib or 8 rib that I am looking for? Never had to replace an alternator on any of my vehicles before. lol

You'll have to go out and count the ribs yourself as they came with both. I personally get parts from rockauto, good prices, fast delivery and multiple options on parts. Good luck.

MY '97 just took a dump too. Got a replacement at Advance Auto. Used coupon codes to order it online but was able to pick it up at the store within an hour. Free shipping though if you don't have one close. Here is the info.

Advance Auto Parts is offering $10 off $25+ (40%), $20 off $50+ (40%), $30 off $75+ (40%), $40 off $100+ (40%), or $50 off $125+ (40%) with coupon code DOW47 [Exp 11/23]. In-store pickup is available for most products, and orders over $75 ship free.
If the code expired you could find others online.

I've heard that an f250 5.4 alternator is a little heavier duty. But I'm not positive on this. I'm gonna look into when it's time for mine.

I've had really good luck with these. They're a bit more on the expensive side, but worth every penny for what I use them for. If you don't need that much power, there are smaller versions too.

I have the same thing but 200 amp in mine and it works great. Just make sure to keep your existing alternator. You may need to swap out the pulley, which takes 2 minutes.

Can anyone tell me the amp rating on the stock alternator for a 5.4?
