Default Air Bag Light

The airbag light now stays on all the time. It flashes on and off shortly after starting - however at some point - it stays on all the time now. Is there any reason for this? What is the best way to correct this problem?

Thanks for the inputs.

Count the flashes and report back.
Usually it's a two part code. It'll flash a certain #of times and that's the first digit, then it'll flash again and that's the second digit. Then it repeats and will then stay on

I echo both of these guys.... the code is telling you something is wrong. Tell us what the code is, and we can help.

I had a problem with my airbag light that was fixed recently (i hope)! I was getting code 21 sometimes and code 25 at other times, mostly 21 and lately every time I drove it would start flashing before I got out to the road.

I found a ground wire in the drivers side kick panel that was barely hanging on to rusted metal. After I relocated the wire I haven't seen a code for 6-8 trips.

Also, that ground wire has some interesting effects. I had it disconnected completely and went to start the truck. The first thing I noticed was the door chime didn't chime. I think most of the panel lights were not lit when I turned the key to start. The truck started but shut it self off after 1 second.

So, check your ground. Many of these codes are sprung because the ecu is measuring resistance outside an acceptable range - like if the ground was bad. Check the ground before throwing parts at the problem.

97-98's tend to have problems the 99 ups don't seem to have. Something in the plugs it seems. I almost cut my wires when I added a DD radio. Where they mount above the radio, if the radio upper housing is cut, will cause the seat belt module to light up. Usually on these it's unplug the module, reattach the wires. Cleared up my codes on both my 98's.

you are correct - totally fair comment - and I apologize. I'm traveling this week and will be able to check the code this weekend. On the other two comments - I will go back and update on both of them. I apologize to the forum for not providing the feedback -

Ok. Following up. I had a check engine light and the flashing airbag light last week. I get regular check engine lights that show a gas cap code - even though I’ve replaced the gas cap a couple of times

so so this morning I disconnected the battery to reset the check engine light.

When I started up - everything worked ok. No check engine light and no flashing airbag light.

The second time I drove it - the airbag light flashed three times followed by a long pause. That repeated several times
and finally the airbag light just stayed on.

Last time I drove it - no flashing light - everything worked fine - no flashing lights.

Not it sure if I’ll get out again tonight - I’ll update again tomorrow on whatever happens.

Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions?
