Heres image from my current one. Width is ok, not great. A few inches inside ends of bumpers. Night on this one is really bright though.
the width is better on the integrated handle cam above. Almost to ends of bumper. looks like good choice. I could never find a review for any, with pics, do wasnt gonna buy it.
My old one was better width, but not as good vertically, because couldnt adjust....it died after a yr or so too.
Id pay whatever it took for a real quality camera....problem is...you cannot tell online what your getting. Easy to pay $200 for a $20 camera.
Pic on very dark street. Grainy of course. can't see my trailer hitch without something back there to reflect light in that area
Thanks. It's still working well. The finish faded off, so I shot it with some Krylon recently, but otherwise, it's fine.
I didn't realize there may be a 10th-gen handle with room to mount the camera on the left side and keep the tailgate lock. Mine is/was never locked anyway. Since I have a soft tonneau cover, it's kind of moot. I do have plans, though, to contact the gate so the alarm will sound if it's opened while armed. I just need to get one of these:
One note: I wired mine so it's powered on only in reverse, but with that I'd wired it hot and used the reverse trigger for the head unit, because my Pioneer has the capability of viewing the camera at any time by pressing a menu button. It's only been a couple of times I've wished for that capability, but something to think about if/when you do yours.

..
I was going to mention about the locking part. I would definitely want to keep that locking mechanism on my truck.
As far as the gate opening while alarmed, how does the Tuit product you attached help? Sorry, I see that picture as more of a coaster type for drinks. Not familiar with them.
Your last point about having the ability to turn on camera at any time is a great point - I'd definitely want that to have that ability, especially if I do towing.
I bought a $47 one on Amazon that is wireless. The camera mounts to the license plate frame and is powered by the +12V wire that powers the reverse lights. I used the factory wiring route under and behind the bumper. The receiver is just a box that looks like a GPS unit and is powered off the cigarette lighter.

I've seen those before. I'm going more for a built-in look to it.
