Default adapter for stereo head unit????

i have a 98 f-150 extended cab. It has a am/fm stereo. No tape or cd player. The unit also has the heat defrost and fan controls on the same unit. Is there some kind of special replacement unit i would have to install if i want to put an aftermarket stereo in it??? I already have a clarion pro audio deck that i took out of another one of my cars and would like to put that in it.

you can buy a dash kit that is all plastic and goes in right above the fan controls and the deck fits right in that. if u have an ultimate electronics near u id go there. up here they're cheaper than the other stores

Man, what kind of radio do you have exactly??? There should be the trim around the radio and the ac/heater controls, but they're two different pieces.

Here's an older picture of my truck with the dash kit installed:

Hope this helps...

im sure there is a kit for it u just gotta find it. have you taken your dash apart b4? cuz to take the trim piece off around the radio and controls you push the air vents in and grab the piece and pull out on the piece and look at your dash it should b 2 pieces. like this and the black plastic all around the deck is the new dash kit

Man, I thought Ford had installed pretty much the same head units in all the 97-03 models, some being am/fm, am/fm tape, am/fm cd etc. Same thing goes for the Expeditions as well. I installed a new Alpine in a buddy of mines 02 Expy a while back and it was just like installing it in the 150's.

Hmmmm...

I had to drive to three places in town to find a dash trim piece that actually fit without trimming my panel, etc..

Did you have the same factory radio as well? Mine dash kit slid in the factory slot and it fit's rather solid to be honest. I'm surprised about some of the problems people have had. I use to install stereos and never ran into anything like this on the 97-03 F-150's.
