Default AC Issue

My 03 Lariat has an issue with the AC. It blows nice and cold but it refuses most of the time to blow out of the vents... Comes out of the defrost vent 24/7.

If I drive for more than 30 minutes constant, it will flip over and blow through the vents, but won't stay that way... It will flip between the defrost and the vents...for the duration of the trip..

Sometimes I can set the temp gauge at 60 and after a driving a bit, I can change the temp to 65ish and it will kick over to blowing through the passenger vents...

Anybody know what is causing this problem and is there a way to fix this w/out taking it to the dealer??

Defrost is probably default, and I think they are vacuum controlled.

Check the vacuum line connection that is going through the firewall on the passenger side behind the battery for cracks or being broken.

My trucks AC vents wont blow either. The AC still blows cold but only through the defrost and floor vents. None of the dash ones that actually help in this Alabama heat lol. It happened when my dad put in my new cd player...3 christmases ago but there's a little for lack of a better word, "control flap" that flips one way to let it blow through and the other to close it and in all his moving stuff and bumbing stuff he jammed it shut. I dunno if thats in anyway what may have happened to yours but just something to check. Mines stayed this way for like i said, the better part of three years but i'm just not sure how to fix it and since i always have the windows down it doesn't bother me too much. The only time i really needed it was when i took it to the beach, that was brutal.

i would say your vacuum is messed up thats going to your vents. i have a 97 f150 and mine does the same thing every now and then but it usually kicks in after one or two minutes.
