What pressure bleeder did you get? I've looked at the Mityvac stuff, but just never pulled the trigger. I've had one in my Amazon "Save for Later" for quite some time now.

Default 1 man brake bleed

i recently replaced my HCU unit with a salvage yard HCU because original unit leaked brake fluid from the test ports. I had to add fluid weekly and left a mess ever where i parked.

After installing salvage yard HCU, I bled the brake system by my self.

I used a 2 foot level and a small piece of 2 x 4 wood block to depress brake pedal. I would place 2 foot level on brake pad and small 2x4 on drivers seat to depress pedal about about 75%. l would then use the electric seat to move seat forward until brake pedal was completely depressed. I started at passenger rear, d/s rear, p/s front and d/s front.

I now have a unit that does not leak, firm pedal with no creep at stop lights, no abs light and did not have to have unit programmed.

This method worked fine for me considering I did not have a helper at the time. roomie was out of town.

That's pretty cool Mac glad you got it to work . You didn't say what year your truck is or model 2 wheel drive or 4x4. I think my hardest thing will be to find a good ABS unit for under a million bucks. Any of the ones that are used are just that used. 20 years old is still 20 years old. I'm hoping I can find one in a wreck that someone just changed it out and was in an accident . That would be choice. Apparently I can use one as new as 2004 . Herman

Failure rate of the valve block and pump is rock bottom. The only thing I can ever remember replacing one for is what Mac M said, external leakage which is easy to spot.

my truck details are listed at the bottom of my replies on all my posts.

Good luck with hunting down a good HCU unit.

My HCU unit cost was $55 at pic a part and a large bottle of dot 3 brake fluid to bleed system.

This thread takes me back to all the line guys coming to me whining about how they can't bleed brakes and asking me to hook up IDS to check and see if it has an abs bleed service function. It did not- an indication of what Ford thinks about what does and does not work when bleeding these trucks. Every once in a while the tech wouldn't BS you when you followed up on how the issue got resolved and they'd just tell you that bleeding finally worked.

Sac up Herman and wait for your bleeder to get there, this is how bleeding works these days. And DO NOT EVER EVER let an ABS system run dry when you open it up for repair. The best brake techs don't make problems for themselves by doing this.
