Default '97 tranny issue

The truck in question is a 97 f150 4.6 AT 4wd. The truck was bought being told and assuming the tranny and fuel pump was bad. Did a tune up and got it running good. The truck shifts hard through the gears. It does shift through all 4 gears and shifts in and out of overdrive via the column button. The weird thing is that it revs about 3000rpm at 30mph in OD. There is also a noise coming from the tranny area going down the road. It sounds like what a hydraulic line sounds like when actuated, sort of like a whine. Also I can switch to 4-low and the rpm is the same as 2wd at 30mph.

Did a tranny flush and filter change. When I say hard shift, I don't mean firm, I mean rough.

Changed the filter directly after the flush.

Ford has a spring kit available which recalibrates the shift point. It comes with full instructions. Might be worth a try.
