Default 4x4 problem

Hi all,
I was at the beach this weekend and got stuck twice. this never happens, i couldnt figure out what was happening, obviously i was not getting in 4WD despite the display showing it. 4H and 4 L would not work.
The front wheels would not spin, just the back.

I have taken off the 4x4 shift motor, it is working fine, i took off disassembled and cleaned. I then tested it and it worked fine switching to 2H-4H-4L. While i had it in 2H i was able to turn the front drive shaft that went from the Shift motor area to the front. When i switched to 4h, i was not able to turn the shaft.

Any suggestions on what to look at next?

Thanks

I had mine fixed a few months back. Doing same thing. The indicator lights were lighting up on dash, you could hear it clicking in and it actually went into "4lo" except the front wheels were not engaging. IN the front differential on the passenger side, there is what they call a shift fork or something like that, it slids in and locks the front differential in. Anybody can chime in and correct me if wrong on how that works, but basically that's either broken or just isn't working. Cost me $375 at the dealer to fix. Sounds like that is your problem. Dealer says it is very common with the 2003 model year.
