Default 4x4 open diff

hey guys i just found out that my 2001 f150 has an open diff (axle code 19 3.55 on the door sticker. Essentailly, my truck is worthless for what I like to do (off-road while hunting, etc) I am thinking about an aftermarket limited slip differential, as "lockers" seem to be a little too hard core for what I need and I do, and after all I also put a lot of highway miles on my truck. Questions: 1) why make a 4x4 with an open differential? 2) how easy is it to install one of these , 3) Should rear LSD cover it for weekend off-roading, or should I look into getting something in the front also? Thanks for any help

3) Rear LSD is perfect for weekend light off-roading

2) All you need is a LSD carrier, new carrier bearings and races, a shim selection, a dial indicator and a pry bar to set the backlash after everything's tightened in.

I'm only putting LSD in my rear because I don't feel like messing with the front.
