I have a manual shift on the fly setup not a switch operated one, so the switch might not be in the same spot. It should be spot 12 in this image if i recall correctly:

update i found where the part should go, but there is no old mode switch to take out and no connect to be found to plug the new mode swithc into, spot 12 has a small hole but there is no threads and is a dead end. spot 2 is the only place i can find that will thread the switch in, but again no electric connector for the switch to be found.

Did you speak with ford and confirm via VIN that this part is indeed for your switch operated transfer case?
