4 Wheel Drive Issue
Hello all,
The issue I am currently having is something I think could possibly be a switch, but I wanted to run this by the more experienced forum first.
My four wheel drive is completely electric. The switch works well in initiating four wheel drive, both low and high. However, when I go to turn it off, I cannot hear a click sound inside the switch. It does not take the truck out of 4 wheel drive. I am typically stuck unplugging the battery and having it reset. However, I recently noticed that if I turn off the four wheel drive by the switch, and I shut off the car for an extended period of time, it will eventually turn off. It is very delayed and I would be unable to turn it off on the spot without unhooking the battery.
So here is my question. Is this a switch problem? In addition, do I have to remove the dashboard to replace the switch?
Thanks in advance

I'm unsure of the cause, but you can remove the switch easily enough without taking out the dash. The plastic bezel around the radio pops off. Just wrap a flathead screwdriver in electrical tape and you can pry it off. The airbag key lockout will also come with it. Just be careful to not overstretch the wires before you disconnect them from the back of the 4x4 switch and the airbag lockout. Very easy to do... once you have it out of the truck you can probably test it.
One thing to add: if the bulb in the airbag lockout indicator is the original, the filament is likely fragile. Mine failed when I put my dash back together. If it happens to you, here's a link to help you fix it:
