Because you have 3.23 gears, the lower the gear(the higher the number ie 4.10, 4.56) the more torque/'get up and go power' youll have and im pretty sure unless the prev owner installed that high of gear than stock you should have 3.55 gears

3.23 would be great for top end, but not off "the line" power and torque. Most trucks no days that are sold for daily driving have a ratio of around 3:73. The 4.10 would be great for off line torque and towing/pulling. 4:56 = HORRIBLE gas mileage but crazy torque.

correct me if I'm wrong, but unless the previous owner installed 3.23 gears, you should have 3.55 gears

Ok I raced a 5.3 liter crew can Chevy (heavy). And he said it was ordered from the factor with "highway gears" (3.23 supposedly) and It has 164000, they were all short races so i got beat off the line never got time to top out, I like the lower gears because of fuel mileage but I want the racing power too which gear would give me both

Your throttle body is probably crazy dirty too. Mine was. The 4.6 arent really that fast man and the 3.55 gears dont have as much off the line run as 3.73 or lower would. If you keep racing i would try cold air intake, exhaust, and gears for starters. That should help a good bit

I just got my top end carbon cleaned though so doesn't that include throttle body? And will my fuel mileage go down if I switch gears?

Depends what size wheels you have and what gear ratio you choose. 4.10 will give you a good amount of torque with pretty good gas mileage if you have stock-33" tires. 4.56 if you have 35"-37". 4.88 if you have 38"-up
