Default 2wd vs 4wd frame

As some of you know I have a 4x4 regular cab and just got a 2wd S-crew. I was going to sell the regular cab and keep the S-crew as a driver. I recently took my Mustang to the local dragstrip and am hooked. I've got the thought going through my head to make the S-crew a driver and make the regular cab a dedicated track vehicle. I know I could section the frames and reweld them to put the S-crew body on the 4wd SWB chassis and vice versa. However I was wondering if the base of 4wd and 2wd frames were the same? Like will the 2wd frame have mounts for the torsion bar x-member and can the 4wd front crossmember be removed from the 4wd frame and mounted on the 2wd frame? I know that the older trucks (at least the F250 the 2wd frames could be easily converted using the 4wd x-member). This would make life a lot easier.

No, don't even attempt this, not only is the screw frame totally different to the reg cab frame, the 2wd frame is totally different than the 4wd frame. You'll just end up scrapping both trucks trying to frankenstein them together. You're better off to sell the reg cab and get a proper track car. A nice Chevy 454ss would be a great track vehicle. Look into them.

Don't mean to sound cocky, but this was my mustang halfway through me fixing it an how she sits now. If the only differences are the x-members I should be able to handle it. And I realize the wheelbase is different, I'm just talking the x-member mount points.

It was wrecked in the back. Had to weld a rear clip in.

Why don't you just keep the mustang as your dedicated track car. That would be the best and the fastest vehicle of the three.

I always say it's not being cocky if you have the skills to back it up! Nice work! You definitely have the skills!

Now as for your question. The front xmember in the 4x4 trucks that holds the lower control arms is a integral part of the frame and is welded in as such.

If it were me. I would do a solid axle swap to the 2wd with simple leaf springs up front. But either way a lot of fab work.

You could just find a 4x4 screw frame and swap your body onto it.

Where are you located?

I love the car and during the summer if I'm not riding my bike I'm driving it. That's why im so leary to make it a strip car. Im thinking I'll probably just continue with the plan to sell the truck as is. Then just SAS the S-crew later, which I planned to do anyway. The concern of the mounting points was mostly in regards to converting the regular cab to 2wd. I did find somewhat reasonably close SWB 2wd frames for $300-350.

I'd go that route. the frames are completely different all the way up to the rear section where the frame rises to meet the bed.
