This topic has come up a few times but it has been dismissed rather quickly, if you think you can pull it off by all means go for it. If you really like the truck I would suggest you find manual tranny 4wd parts truck and swap the cabs and your engine.

to be honest with you I have thought about doing the same this just because I love everything about my truck except that it is 2wd. If my finances allow I would consider doing a cab swap to a 4wd later on when my engine dies, just because I think it would be really cool to be able to keep my first truck when I am older.

well if your dead set on doing this, which it sounds like you are, i would go to a junkyard and cut the front end and transfer case, and all that jazz out of a pre 96 4x4 and just do a solid axle conversion. this would make getting all the geometry right so much easier. also im pretty sure a 2wd has different rear gears than a 4wd so if you ever do this, dont ruin it by gettin carried away.

then if you ever want to lift it or anything, just order stuff for whatever year you get it off of because its the front end thats important, the rear end is either blocks or springs anyways.

but the logical thing to do is trade it in on a 4wd

personally I would sell it and get a 4wd with similar cab, etc that you like. it youre set on your cab, etc...then switch it to a 4wd with blown motor, possibly wrecked. if youre set set on an actual conversion, straight axle will be the easiest. youll need a new tranny/transfer case, front axle, leafs, etc

i dont think your gonna find anyone on this forum or any other forum that converted a 2 wheel drive f150 into a 4x4, its a big waste and hastle, you would have to change almost everything under the truck, just buy a 4x4 or trade your truck in for a 4x4 if you got that good of a deal on it

Well I have to say your just plain old nuts to go threw this....maybe you have the time and money.....but that don't make it a good idea. Most people that start this kind of project never finish it.

Well,

I can say that my dad to a 91 f250 desil and made it into 91 f250 4x4 gas.....lol alot of work..

I think pre 96 would be the best, but I would love to turn mine 97 into a 4x4 and I think it can be done as long as 2 trucks meaning (the donor) were side by side...

good luck
