Default 2003 supercrew ?

Recently got in a non at fault accident with my 2001 super crew total loss. I have test drove a 2003 super crew lariat one of the cleanest trucks I have ever seen to be 13 years old has a 2 valve 5.4 with auto transmission with 198,000 miles on it. I have test driven it everything seems ok drove smooth shifted fine. Is there anything you guys recommend looking for and because of mileage do you think transmission will hold up?

push on the rockers and inspect them. Other than that the normal check list, if it drives good and shifts smooth it was probably well taken care of.

Jennifer, it's anyone's guess at almost 200k.

If the price is right (sub 2k) go for it.

Personally if I needed a new truck I'd be looking at 08+ but it depends on the bank roll I suppose.

I agree with black on white and tackle, however trucks like you are describing here in southern Ohio go for 5-6k an 08 will set you back twice that amt.-crawl under and give it good once over.
Its just me, but normally i will do a trans fluid dump and filter change on any used car i buy with more than 75k on it.
Hope you find a truck that was as nice as your old one- Regards, Bear

Not sure where in Southern Ohio you truck shop? I'm in the same area and paid $1400 for my 2000 scab 4x4 and in 2012 paid $8500 for my 06 FX4 screw at Don Wood Ford in Athens. Trucks are very plentiful and cheap around here.

Eagle- im in Chillicothe-you might find some private owners below 2k, but most used car dealerships start at that for a straight cab short bed with plenty of rust included!
When dad decided to sell his(03,lariat, s-crew,4x4,leather and loaded at 150k) i bought it for 3,500 and didnt feel a bit bad. Lancaster,C-ville,Columbus, all about the same- i guess its how the supply and demand of the area is-
I hope he finds a good truck, Regards, Bear

I'm just down the road in Jackson. Trucks can be had for cheap around here and they dont have to be rust buckets. I've been buying vehicles for 30 years and know how to get a deal lol.

All i can say is my 2003 screw lariat is best truck ive ever had, except for mileage.

My interior is in excellent cond after 13 yrs. Its really amazing how well its looking . its not a truck im looking to get rid of anytime soon. Hope to get 5 more yrs out of it. No rattles, squeaks, sloppiness etc. Looks good too.

Around here, its not a cheap truck. Rust isnt issue. Truck dealers will list them for $10,000. Newer trucks with 100,000 miles are 20,000 dollars and up. Thats the choice. Even from a person its a 5-6000 truck with issues.

I replaced my engine due to hg leakage, @204, 000 but tranny and everything else great at 220,000 so far. Id do it again. Its a better. Truck than you can get new today. Last good truck ford made.
