2001 F150 seat changes?
We're looking to get a truck and my mother-in-law is selling her '01 F150, 2WD, v6 4.2 auto, supercrew, short bed, XLT.
It's only got 66,000 miles on it and it's in good shape apart from needing new tires and some scratches in the paint.
Unfortunately, it doesn't quite do what we want it to do on two fronts. The difficult bit is that the truck's in Texas and I'm in Maryland right now so i can't look at it for myself and my mother-in-law is not able to answer the questions i've got......
Firstly, we really want to have a middle seat in the front but it's got the "captain's chairs" in the front with the big fixed console in between them.
Does anyone know if it's possible to take the fixed console out and put in a seat between the two existing seats?
I've seen pictures of F150s of this period with a middle seat and the back of the seat can fold-down to give a centre console of sorts, with cup holders - that would be ideal.
Does anyone know if you can buy one of those seats and switch it with the existing fixed console?
Secondly, we'll want to have our dog in the back of the cab.
When the seat is folded up, the brackets that the seat sits/hinges on make very dog-unfriendly hazards, that could easily hurt the dog under sudden braking/swerving, etc.
Does anyone know how easy it is to take those out, but be able to refit them if we have to sell the truck?
Thanks for any help y'all can give us.

ok, good questions, the best opition for you would to find a junk yard or some where that sales used parts and look for a 60-40... that would give you the choice of having a full bench and also having two sep seats and a console at the same time... you can look at my pics on my page of before when i had the 60 40 and now my new seats.... also if you got a craigslist where your at put it online that you would trade straight up for the seats.. alot of people **** what u got
josh2000 - thanks for the suggestions. Looks like you did the opposite of what we're thinking about!
How easy was it to make the switch?
Am wondering if the floor carpet is continuous underneath the current fixed centre console...or whether you take the console out and find a big hole in the carpet...'cos then you'd need to fix/replace that too...and then it becomes a bigger job...
swerven11 - thanks for the offer. We've not yet decided on the truck so the seats aren't yet ours to give!
My wife's other suggestion is that we keep looking for a truck with the seating we want already in it!
'cept that'll be giving up a known truck with very low miles for it's year at a great price...

I didnt know you could get a 4.2L in the supercrew! Is this accurate?
Also, tell ya what... I have the front bench and would LOVE to trade her out for the captains chairs with the console. I'd even do all the work in just a couple hours. The swap is easy with no modifications required besides a hole drilled in my floor for the console IIRC.
I have the XLT Grey cloth with the cupholders. Let me know if you would want to make the switch!

Lenn - sorry, my bad, i had a brain fart and typed supercrew when i meant to type supercab! It's really a supercab - the one with the rearward opening suicide doors behind the regular front doors and then there's the folding bench seat in the back (40/60 split).
Not sure what color the cab is inside. Think it may be grey of some sort. Sure it's cloth too...will ask
I like the sound of your offer - only small problem is that the truck's near DFW! And if we get it (looking more likely now - my wife's at Carmax now seeing what they'd give her for her '00 Subaru Forester!!), we'll be heading north and east up here to MD...so you'd not exactly be on the way!!
Does sound like it's not that difficult of a switch though - i like that.
BTW, what's "the console IIRC"?

I live in Bedford Texas (suburbs of DFW) and have a bucket drivers seat and the center seat folds down into a arm rest so it seems good for what you're wanting. If you'd be interested I would trade seats with you, mine are grey and didn't notice if you mentioned what color yours were.
I've got some pictures but it won't let me post them...
