Default 2001 4x4 not working

The 4x4 is not engaging the front end. The light on dash comes on showing it in four wheel drive. Checked all of the fuses and also the connections.
Any ideas?

Well good
That means your shift motor probably works

Stuck front actuator
No vacuum to front actuator
Brittle plastic pads busted off of shift fork that engages front

Get under and use fingers to press diaphragm on actuator, you may free it if stuck

Check vac to it

If it moves and not engage, you need new shift fork...very common with much shifting

Exactly ^^^ Do a good visual check of vac line integrity first. As said, those lines brittle up and break. No vac, no engagement. They usually break apart between the battery and firewall.
