Default 2000 Lariat Gear Shift Replacement

I need to replace mine. Is there a simple method to do this or do I need to have Ford deactivate the steering wheel air bag then pull the steering wheel? Hopefully I won't have to go to this trouble.
Thanks!

Hopefully someone has done this before and can give me some advice.

You shouldn't have to take the steering wheel off at all. I don't know if you are installing a shift handle or parts on the column, but no need to take the steering wheel off. Take the three screws out of the bottom trim of the column, unscrew the tilt lever, remove bottom trim piece. Turn key to run position, use small pick to push up on ignition tumbler (small hole seen under tumbler) and pull on tumbler. Remove upper trim from column, pull rubber boot up from shifter handle and tap the roll pin out. Disconnect the connector for the overdrive switch and reverse process. Shifter handle done. If its the shift bushings the column will will have to be dropped down or removed. Check the two torx bolts at the bracket where the shift cable attaches, they fall out. I guess we need to know what exactly you are replacing?

Thanks, that's what I really needed. I'm replacing the entire shift lever so shouldn't take too long. Sounds pretty straight forward.

Thanks TRD-TOY, I got it replaced. The hardest thing was getting to the pesky pigtail plug up under the dash. The rest was easy.
Thanks again!
