2000 Ignition Key Interlock Broken
I had the transmission rebuilt 2000 Lariat and ever since then the ignition key has trouble turning in the lock cylinder. I took it back to the shop and complained but they naturally said they had nothing to do with it, even though I ever had the issue before. According to the tech there is a cable that goes between the steering column and transmission that has tabs on it and the tabs are broken. I need to replace the cable.
All well and good but I don't have the actual name or part number for the cable in question. I can get the key to work after fiddling with it for a bit, but on 100 degree days, it gets old quick.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

So, you're saying the shifter won't allow the key to turn, correct?
If you take the covers off of the column, you can usually find a couple of loose screws in the shift mechanism. Just move the shifter around with the covers off, and it will usually reveal itself. I don't have any pics right now, or I'd post them.

The shifter doesn't seem to have much of an effect on it. if you move the key in/out, or move the lock cylinder in/out/up/around it will eventually allow you to move the key to the accessory position. After more jiggling it will allow the key to move and let you start the vehicle.
I found out a few moments ago you can also take the key out of the ignition after the truck is running.

If you can take the key out, then the cylinder needs replacement and is probably your main culprit. To be able to remove the key, it has to be really worn down also. I don't like the PATs problem you'll have, but it is either replace it with a new cylinder and have the keys set to your truck, or live with the problem. Cutting a new sharp key, if you have 2 keys currently, then a new key can can be programmed for nothing. If you only have one key, you will have to have it redone by a locksmith to program the new cylinder keys to the truck.
