Default 2000 f150 issues-

I am looking at a 2000 f150 4x4 supercab shortbox thats for sale. The guy wants 5500 for it and it looks pretty well taken care of. It has 180,000 miles on it and everything works. No leaks, nothing broken and it looks clean.
What are some things I should inspect before buying?
I am not new to fords, I have had a 1979 High boy, a 81 Bronco and now I'm driving a 88 Bronco.
Please don't flame me, if there is a section I missed with this info just point me that way.
Thanks,
Jason

Default Buying Used

Well the first thing I'd do is asked to see his maintenance records, with that high miles he should've replaced the timing chain, water pump, wheel bearings. Check the condition of the tires, how there wearing. That will tell you what kind of condition the suspension parts are in. Did he do alot of towing? After taking for a test drive, check the tranny fuild, It should be bright red, not dark.

Hope this helps.

Default Too much

I just got an 03 2wd Screw 3 weeks ago. Had 179k on it, and it runs like a charm. Excellent condition inside and out. Only paid 5000. Try for 4000 and neg. from there.

Depends on the area, Last November I bought a '00 supercab 125K 4x4 tow package 4.6 w/ a 5 speed and the KBB IIRC was about 8300. Granted I was buying it in the winter time when we have a high demand.

The guy said there are no records, so is there a way to tell if the timing belt has been replaced?

If it is a 4.6 or 5.4 liter engine I think these are single over head cam engines and use timing chains. I have not heard of the chains breaking but can stretch over time. If the motor runs good they may not be a concern.

no way to check unless you pull the cover off. If the guy has no records he either did the work himself or the work was never done. Have you been in his garage? Does he have alot of tools, equipment etc. If he doesn't then you should really rethink trusting his word!

Its a 5.4 Triton. And its on a used car lot, not a private sale.
