Default 2" true dual?

I have an 01 Reg cab short bed 5.4L V8. Who ever had it before me installed a 2" true dual from the cats on back. First off 2"? Does that help with the back pressure? I was wondering if I should put on a cross flow muffler to equal out both sides? Any extra info is welcome!

You used the B word...backpressure lol. Get ready for about a million people chiming in and arguing about it

It'll sound great, but you won't gain any power. In fact you'll probably lose some low end torque.

I have that on my truck. It's a 4.6 though. I can't comment on if it made a big difference in power because it was on the truck when I bought it. I will say that I really like the note it gives the exhaust and that when I push on the gas the truck likes to go.

2 inch is a little small for these trucks. Most go with 2.25, if you got the money (and the desire) then I would go ahead and change it over to 2.25 inch true dual. But 2 inch pipe wonlt hurt anything. anyways crossover pipes are a must with almost any vehicle that is running a true dual exhaust. They arnt so much about helping with back pressure, but the help the engine scavenger exhaust gasses by equallizing the pressure in both of the pipes. When the pressure is equally ballenced on both banks it actually helps your exhaust system "pull" gasses out of the combustion chamber creating a completely equal emptying of each champer. This will greatly improve your low end of you dont have a cross over right now. On a stock truck this is what the Y pipe does, although its not as effecent as an X or H pipe. Since you have only a 2 inch pipe I would stick to a straight throw type muffler like magnaflow or borla, because they will make it sound deeper (lager the pipe diameter, deeper the sound but less back pressure, 2.25 is found to be q perfect ballance for true dials). Straight though mufflers also have less drone than chambered mufflers like flow master. I wouldn't choose a cross flow muffler like you where talking about because they normally don't work as well as an X or H pipe. If you are keeping your 2 inch pipe then a rear cat deleat probably wouldn't hurt your back pressure that much if you wanted to add a little more volume.

And the back pressure thing isn't a myth, if it was we would all be driving around with 5 inch desiel exhaust systems on our truck. But to much back pressure can also be a bad thing.

I'd definitely do a crossover of some sort (X/H pipe). If you're going to step up for for 2.5", that's what stock down pipes are anyway.

Now that I'm thinking about it I think the 2" pipe is what's bogging my engine down. In the summer especially when I have the A/C on. I never could figure out why it was doing that. I guess I'll have to get a y pipe off a junker and have that put back on. Then, put a cat back system on it.

Could also be jogging down because of no scavenging. You could always do a 2.25 inch dual exhauste

a quarter of an inch isn't worth $500 IMO. You won't notice any more power going up a size and it's a big job. Just wait till you need new exhaust and do it then. Adding an X or H-Pipe might help a bit but honestly, if it aint broke don't bother fixing it.

I agree that. 25 of an inch isn't worth the money, but a cross over pipe deffintly is. A cross over wouldn't be hard to add in, expecially an H pipe. That would be real easy.
