1998 4.2 need help!
hi
removed the (upper intake)plenum on my 1998 4.2L to gain access to IMRCs to replace bushings.problem is i forgot to label the two coolant lines that attach to the rear corner(passenger side) of the plenum.I know the centre nipple is for air(pcv) the other 2 are coolant.i assume one is in the other is out.i am new to site but on my second ford truck.could use some help.the pic of the plenum with hoses attached shows the 2 coolant hoses im stuck on. thanks mike

I went out and opened the hood on my 98 4.2. Can not see back in there to trace which hose comes out to go where. I tried reaching in to feel, but my big hands couldn't make it. I then slid my phone back and snapped some pictures, but couldn't get anything distinguishable.
Hopefully there is someone with theirs apart a bit, or have old photos or a manual that can help you. Sorry, I tried.

hi Thanks for trying.its a crowded mess back there.thats why i left those two lines attached until i pulled the plenum free.then i plugged the lines and sat the plenum on the bench before marking anything and instantly forgot.lol
One of the large hose is connected directly from the tube coming from the Water Pump going to the heater core. The other one is connected from the Intake Manifold fitting which is slightly above the Thermostat going to the Heater Core..
The best way to remove all the oil from the Intake Manifold is by adding fee amounts of Denatured Alcohol.
The best way to restore the dirty Intake Manifold Paint is using a rug and mixture of coolant & water..
Did the dealer upgrade the Water Pump tubing when PCV recall was made??

There is also a piece of plastic tubing that goes under the Throttle Body..

hi
thanks.i still have the two lines connected properly to the engine.just not sure which line goes to which of the two nipples at the rear of the plenum.its hard to tell when everything is together because both hoses disappear under side of plenum and behind bracket that holds switches and vacume lines.then one hose sort of pops up at side/rear and plugs into top nipple and the other one fits on just below it.hard to trace and see which of the two hoses pops out and connects to top.

Install a Air/Oil Separator after the PCV valve to prevent Oil Vapor flooding your Intake Manifold..

Just install it at the back of the DPFE sensor. You can also use an Air/Oil Separator used on Air Tools.
Best setup will be 2 Air/Oil Separator. 1st canister for Oil Vapor. Add few amounts of Distilled Water on the 2nd Canister to remove Ethanol diluted in your oil.
