Default 1997 Ford F150 4.6, Need Help With Possible Motor Swap...

First I would like to say Hi to everyone, as I am new to the community. I have a 1997 Ford F150 4x4 with the 4.6 Liter. Now I have done some research and have not yet been able to find an answer/solution. A good friend of mine gave me a 2000 Mustang GT motor and I was curious to see if it was possible to install it in my truck. My truck is fixing to roll almost 180k and the other motor is freshly rebuilt. I don't want to have to modify anything, such as the intake or wiring. I just want to pretty much bolt it in with all my existing parts. I know the 2000 is a P.I. motor and I have a non-P.I., but I was wondering if Ford every introduced the P.I. motor in the F150? And if so, what are the years? I don't want to use the Mustang intake as I will sacrafice so lower end power and have to modify little things on the upper intake; I do realize this is a truck and I am not seeking straight up performance. I just want a little more out of it, because lets face it this truck is way underpowered. My idea was if there was a solution, to just do bolt-ons, a slight cam and tune. I have put a P.I. motor in and 97 mustang and we were able to keep all the existing wiring to include even the coil packs that were originally equipped with the vehicle. So in a nut shell, what are my options to use this P.I. motor?

The book I read said that in 1999 ford went to the PI heads and intake for the 4.6L. As for bolting on, it should bolt right up. The biggest concern I have is the computer, wether the truck will need the computer to the new 4.6L, or the original computer needing programed to accomidate the new motor. Other than that, I wouldnt see any issues.

Not like theres going to be any issues with room under the hood of one of these trucks.

By chance is the new motor a DOHC 4V?

The motor is a regular 2V 4.6 the only difference is that my motor is a non-P.I. and the mustang one is a P.I. I have searched everywhere and have not found a P.I. intake for the F150. On another forum two guys got into a big argument, one was saying Ford introduced the P.I. motor in 2001 and the other guy was saying it was never introduced on the 4.6 F150. I know for a fact that all the other hook-ups will work, however my problem lies in the intake manifold. I need to find a solution for the intake manifold. The guys on the other forum never did produce any evidence sayin yes or no...

Hey bud, I really do appreciate the help. Thank you all for the help. I will look for a 2001 F-150 intake manifold. Anyone have any ideas other than Ford.

You will need a different calibration code for the PCM because PI engine do not use a Cylinder head temp sensor with out it the truck will stay in limb mode. Also just buy a new intake manifold. Dorman makes one an its around $150..
