01 5.4 lifter replacement
well I have been searching about this ticking sound that has been driving me nuts since I changed it to the proper oil. Obviously the guy who sold the truck put thicker oil in to quiet the tick, good thing I changed it. So im gonna fix it right. I have narrowed it down to the rear cylinder driverside lifter/lash adjuster. I have done some research and deep creeped everything I believe is coming off to get to the valve cover. The things I still need help with are.. Is there a special tool to remove the lifter? do I need to use rtv or is the store bought gasket enough? And any tips would be greatly appreciated.
that's what i'm worried about getting the truck apart and not having the correct tools to finish. I cant get a video up right now, ill try to explain. I first noticed the noise from the driverside tailpipe I was suspecting the cat. so I got a stethoscope and narrowed it down to the rear of the exhaust manifold.. fast rate tick, tick, tick. gets more dramatic under load. when I changed the oil the noise was audible from the wheel well. considering how much worse it got with the oil change I ruled out the spark plug, all tho i am going to check while back there and probably replace them. I just want to make sure I have all the correct tools before I jump in.

yea I dug into it today, all the studs are on the manifold. when I was looking for the leak I felt and listened around the manifold and downpipe. immediately after I changed the oil the noise increased 50%. Today I moved everything out of the way and when I went to remove the valve cover bolts it round off it was so corroded. I was so frustrated I took a break, its cold out there. what is the best method to remove these bolts. from inspection atleast 8 or so are in fair condition, looks like 3-4 may give me trouble.
