Default Your thoughts on 2005 STX

Hello,

I am looking at a 2005 F150 STX with has 137,000 miles. I was wondering your opinions on its dependability, etc. I know the dealer so I should get a good deal on it (10,800-11,000 ish).

Is the 4.6 2V as bad as everyone says?

I am looking for a good truck that will last me quite a few years. Just wanted to see if a truck with that many miles is a good thing?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Not a whole lot to go wrong with the 4.6 2V. Less troubles than the 5.4. You should be able to get a better deal I would think with that mileage. I got mine for 13,9 with 53k miles.

I have an 05 STX 4x4 and love it. I hunt, so I like the rubber floor mats in it. Mine did come with an aftermarket power window/keyless entry system, so I was happy about that (though the window motors aren't hooked up through a relay and take forever to roll up).

Regarding the 4.6, I like it. I'm a Mustang guy, so I know lots of stuff about the 4.6 and haven't played with the 5.4 before. If there is an issue, it's with the gearing and not the engine. Mine came with 3.55s and a TractionLok in the rear. I already have 4.10s ready to be installed (probably the next time I'm home from offshore, so like 2wks) and that will fix that issue.

And because it's considered a "lower" model, I don't mind so much making changes to it. LOL You can see where mine started and how it looks today in this thread...

I think the 4.6 is way too weak for this truck. If I had it to do over again, I'd go with the 5.4.

Everything else, I love though.

If the price is right go for it. At $10K that is absolutely insane. A high mileage vehicle can be worth it if you get it for cheap. $10k for a 2005 STX is nuts, you can get them private party for about $6.5k. Look around for a better deal.

As far as a long life I would not be too concerned. If it was taken care of you should be good for 250k. I picked up my 2005 XLT with 106k in miles, paid $8700, and I have put on about 40k in trouble free miles.

I have an '08 STX.
I love everything about the truck except the low end torque.
Very dependable motor from everything I have heard.

I have an '04 STX and I like it. Only things I don't like is the manual locks and windows. Huge pain. I'd suggest getting after market powered ones. No tach is also annoying sometimes. Other then that everything else is great. The 4.6L might be a little under powered, but is still a reliable engine that will last a LONG time. Figure it's got to be if every cop car and taxi has one. But again, a little under powered.

I have an '05 STX standard cab with the 4.2 V6. Absolutely pleased with this truck. No issues with cam phasers, spark plugs, or other "big boy" V8's. It's got 86K and runs great. I paid $8000.00 for it about two years ago; I guess the prices are going up a bit, as I don't see a V8 adding $2000.00 to the price.

Plan to put at least 200K on it before considering a new truck.

i have the 05 stx reguler cab, in 4x4. to me, its not a quick truck by any means cause of the added weight of the 4x4. wish i would have known, my combo is BAAAD on gas... 11.5 mpg average. i think the bigger engine would do better on gas mileage, ...........BUT, the 2wd trucks have to be better, my father-in-law has one and loves it.

I had an 05 STX 2WD with the 4.2. All in all it was a good truck, never had any issues. I just got to needing the four doors and got my FX4 at a good deal. But I loved my STX.
