Default WTF is this sensor??

Truck info- see signature.

Driver's side front wheel well, seems to mount on the frame maybe? I found it not daingling like this, but just sitting ontop of the frame. I was disconnecting the lower rad hose when i spotted it. It has a ceramic body with 2 wires and mine is broken and some ceramic pieces have fallen off. Some sort of sensor? might it have something to do with my ABS light being on at all times?

anyways, WTF is this sensor?

thanks,
john

I can't seem to find a definite part number (even in my service manual), but tascaparts.com has it in their online catalog for $30

^ more than likely this. My truck is (well, was) equipped with DRLs as well & I have this same thing. I haven't noticed it on any other trucks on the lots, then again, i'm not really looking for it.

what does DRL stand for other than Driving Really Liquored.

edit1: nevermind googled Daytime Running Lights. I should have known. I can't imagine why the system would need a resistor?! I'll keep researching.

edit2: research indicates its a daytime running light resistor. When headlight switch is in off mode, headlights are still powered but this resistor is injected in series and the result is not 12V to the headlights but 10V. so you get a dimmer headlight during the day. I'm guessing the reason is lower energy consumption and to extend bulb life.

I think I'll just disconnect the DRL resistor and tape up the connector while I look for one. which I'm in no rush for. here in Canada DRL are mandatory for safety inspection which is when I would need it fixed- when i sell it.

Thanks guys for the prompt replies and heading me in the right direction.

Since the system uses your actual headlights (instead of another set of lamps like the Silverados) the resistor is used to reduce the light output.
