Issue: Has your truck stalled while the yellow wrench light is on?
This seems to be quite a frequent problem in our community of F-150 owners. Read the discussion below to find out:
While in some cases this is caused by a dirty air filter, most of the time the consensus seems to be that it is an issue with a faulty throttle body that will need cleaning and/or replacement. Cleaning takes about 20-40 minutes (How-to found here) and taking it to the dealer will set you back anywhere from $200-$400. Since this component is also connected to the same system as the OBD port, you might want to check for wiring issues.

Even though his post is a couple of years old, thanks to mod Bucko for suggesting that it could be as simple as a dirty air cleaner.
I have an '09 with a 4.6 and the wrench light came on the other day. After seeing his post, I remembered that I had very diligently ignored the AirRaid filter I had installed and not cleaned for at least 20,000 miles.
I pulled it out, cleaned it and that seems to have solved the problem for me. So, sound advice is sound advice, two years old or not. Thanks again, Bucko!!

It's better in a Ford
can anyone post instructions on cleaning the throttle body with pictures? I had wrench light come on today going to work. Shut it off at a red light waited a few seconds and restarted it, have not had issues again yet, but I am worried.. Not too terribly mechanically inclined. Can anyone provide assistance? benchdog1@msn.com

When I experienced this very problem, I replaced the throttle body and it never missed a beat since. When I removed the old one , it showed no signs of being dirty or any other outward appearing problems. It may have been a TPS problem. Point being, it may not be simply from being dirty, although many have found that to be the issue. The change out is very simple as evidenced by the fact I did it myself. Good luck.

Check for intake leaks (unfiltered/unmetered air). I removed my K&N cone filter (CAI) a while back to do some other maintenance; forgot to tighten the clamp, and went for a drive. The filter fell halfway off, and the yellow wrench light cam on and the truck bogged. Pulled over, opened the hood, and there it was. I was able to use the ignition key as a screw driver to tighten the clamp.
So, check the air filter box lid cover, check the tube from the air filter box to the throttle body, look for any obvious wire connectors that came off.
And get the code read!

The wrench light is an electrical fault with the throttle body.... nothing else. You've got either a throttle body issue, wiring, or a PCM issue. Take it to someone that knows how to diagnose it...

2014 Ford 150 losinf power and wrench icon appears.
After this first happened three weeks ago, Ford Service said no codes showed up. Now three weeks later I lost power 6 times in three days with two of those on my drive to the Service Department. The check engine light came on also. This time they quickly diagnosed the problem as the throttle body and are replacing it under warranty.

New throttle body for me, as well.
After thinking that cleaning the Air Raid air filter had solved my problem as I posted above, my issue was the Throttle Body as well. About six hundred miles out of warranty, it cost me $450 at the dealer.
Someone with a Harley suggested using ONLY brand-name gas, after he had had a somewhat similar issue. No discount gas and no issues so far, after 50k+ miles on the replacement.
