Issue: Has your truck stalled while the yellow wrench light is on?
This seems to be quite a frequent problem in our community of F-150 owners. Read the discussion below to find out:
While in some cases this is caused by a dirty air filter, most of the time the consensus seems to be that it is an issue with a faulty throttle body that will need cleaning and/or replacement. Cleaning takes about 20-40 minutes (How-to found here) and taking it to the dealer will set you back anywhere from $200-$400. Since this component is also connected to the same system as the OBD port, you might want to check for wiring issues.

When you see the wrench come on it tells you what's wrong...you just need to read the code. Most auto parts stores will read your code for free. You can buy a code read really cheap now days.

It's really really frustrating. The problem is the wrench light doesn't stay on the mechanics are telling me they can not read the code when the light is not on. does anyone know what the most common problemto this is? If I knew that I would go ahead and replace that part just to give that a try.

Tell your mechanics they are wrong! The code should still be saved in your computer. Take it to a parts store and get it read. There's a bunch of things that can make the light come on

This has been happening to me for some time now. I took it to the Ford dealership. they replaced the Fuel Pump Drive Modulator, reset the computer and said all was well. $375 and 3 days later, wrench light, truck shuts down again. Take it back to the dealership. No codes stored, none found. They checked everything. They called Ford. Nobody knows what it could be. Said they reset it again. 3 days later, wrench light, truck shuts down again. Getting really frustrated!

For you guys who's computers are not displaying trouble codes, does your 12V cigarette lighter work?
Its the same circuit that powers the OBD port where you plug in the scan tool. If you have no power to the port, you can't read the codes. Fix your 12V, read the codes, fix problem.
