As for my life plans... I think this would be something I build and keep for myself. Financially, $8k would take a significant chunk out of my savings account but on the other hand, I know that I could make $9k profit if I did end up selling it after investing $8k.

Its just such an odd situation but I almost feel as if its too good to pass up. Historically though, these types of deals usually end up working out NOT in my favor.
I see. In that case I would stay away. Whose to say when you fix/replace the motor, everything else isn't shot

True. That's whats lurking in my mind.

Maybe its better to just look for one that's not questionable.

Do you have a clue as to the transmission's condition? That could cost you another grand or so, depending on if you do the swap. What about the rear end? The suspension?

I'd invest another grand or so and get one that's running. While trucks are holding value, the market is now seeing good used 2009 and up models, so the 2008 and below are selling at lower used prices; at least around Central Florida.

Now if your doing it to have some fun, then that can change this outlook. Sounds like you want to re-sell and make a few bucks.

Does that really ever work?!?

Even if you have to put 3K into it its still blue books for almost twice your investment. My truck blue books at just over 18K private party and over 14K trade in. Hell a coworker just got 14K trade in on his 04 FX4 with over 100K on it. These trucks are like gold around here so check what they are going for in your area.

What is yours though? Mines a lariat which adds a considerable amount to resale, that and its 4x4, around here they sell for much more than a 2wd.
