Default Wiring for Cargo/Third Brake Light

Hi everyone!

I just acquired a 2005 F-150 FX4, which came from a used car dealer, who got it at auction. So, I have essentially no historic info on the truck beyond some Carfax entries. Anyway, the truck has an aftermarket third brake light, which has no cargo light. It's also broken, so I have a brand new OEM light, which I was about to install only to find that a previous owner cut the car-side harness and just twisted the wires (except the cargo light) to the aftermarket light. Now I'm trying to figure out my options - cut the light-side harness off, too, and twist the wires together or put the right connector on the car-side wires. But I don't even have a wiring diagram.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to proceed?

Thanks much!

Go to the junk yard and cut the pigtail off of a matching vehicle. Then solder and shrink tube the pigtail and harness together. That's what I'd do.

My memory must be slipping because I don't remember mine looking anything like that.

I just bought a 2004 F150 FX4 Styleside with lots of aftermarket lights… Ugh! I’ve replaced all of them with OEM except the cargo light. This post is very helpful, thanks!
