Default Wire in tailgate to the door ajar indicator

Hey guys,
Great site! Amazing info and friendly people. Did the Gotts Mod today as a matter of fact! Nice
I have a '07 Screw. I've searched everywhere and cannot find a write-up on this,-
I want to add a switch to the tailgate and tie it into the door ajar indicator on the dash, essentially adding a 5th door. I have a flip-up tonneau and can't see when it's open. I can just see the wife backing into something now! lol

So...I have the switch installed in the rear. It's the wiring I am having trouble with.
Does anyone know what wire (s) I need to connect to make this work? I believe there is a door ajar switch in the door latch but would really rather not have to fish a wire into the doors.
Has anyone done this mod already OR...have any ideas on how to make it work?
Can certainly post pics of install, when i get it all figured out.
Thanks!!

Haven't ever really looked into it but just follow the wires in the door and I'm sure you'll find a junction somewhere where they all meet up. Good luck and great idea!

Take the switch from the driver side door and re-run it.

Shouldn't need that one. If you can't tell the driver's door closed or not you don't need to be driving. lol

Great Idea! I've actually been thinking about this as well but haven't been motivated enough to actually do it. I lost a DeWalt drill about a year ago because I forgot to shut the tailgate and couldn't see it was open because of the toneau. I think it might be easier to add a small light on the dash instead of attaching it to the door ajar signal but you won't get the beep. I'll keep looking to see if you get the info so I can do it too.

I tapped the driver door harness for the remote start and was hoping I could find a wire in the sill plate somewhere so I didn't have to wiggle back in there. Ugh!!! Never easy when you're the first! Will try to post some pics of the switch install as that is all I have done right now. It looks pretty clean.

Any progress on this? I'm gonna do this soon but would rather use the door ajar on the dash than add an led onto the dash.

Put a camera on your tailgate and you will see the ground when it's open, and behind you when it's closed..

Here's how: https://www.f150forum.com/f4/afterma...163504/index7/

Besides, do you really want the message center to constantly say "door ajar" while your hauling anything long? I know that would annoy the crap out of me..
