wire help???
ok well i just figured id make a new thread since this is a different topic...
but anyway, i just got my auto dim mirror in the mail and it has the harness with it...the colors of the wires on the harness are Black with a pink stripe, black, and black with a light green stripe....so i have 3 wires that need to go somewhere...lol...
does anyone know what each one of these wires are? and
where can i attach them to close to the location of mirror so that it works correctly??

Didn't the mirror come with wiring directions? A simple schematic? If not, do they have a web site for you to ask?
If not, post the site here so others can avoid them! How can a company sell a product without providing basic instructions?

was a ford mirror off ebay....used
Now I understand. Any chance you know what year/model the mirror came off of? Perhaps we can match up the wiring color codes.
Does this mirror have built in map lights on it's bottom with an on/off switch?
The black/green could be for map lights....
If your truck does not have a harness at the center roof line (assuming it does not), then you'll need to route at least two wires (a ground, and power, plus the mystery thrid wire) to the left, tucked under the headliner, down the left pilar, and into the fuse box. I did this on my 2005 STX for powering an aftermarket auto dim mirror. I can provide the color code for the wire by the fuse box to tap into for power when the ignition is on, and ground will be easy, as there are bolts that thread into the body at the fuse panel as well. We just need to figure out what the third wire is for, and the color codes on your harness.
Like GATORB8, I think the black is ground, and one of the other two is power for the auto dim, the third is what we need to figure out. Let us know if there are map lights on the bottom of this mirror.

The third is power when the tranny is in reverse (it undims the mirror so you can see when backing up). The three connections I listed are from the diagram for our review mirror. You could probably get away with leaving the reverse power unconnected.
Just try the two power wires separately with a flashlight shining at the mirror, if it dims it the Power in start wire, if it doesn't then it's the reverse wire.

Thanks for educating me on that one. I had no idea that existed!

also to add...i think the black and pink may be the reverse come to think of it...not 100% though...only bc i remember having to wire up my navi head unit into the black and pink when i installed that in....
extending wires now?...any stranded smaller wire?
