Default Window switch or regulator?

I know that this is a common problem with these trucks but im not sure what exactly is going out and how to fix it.

here is the symptom/s: passenger window does not always work when i use passenger button. if it does not work when i use the passenger button, pushing the driver button once or twice makes the passenger button work again. the driver button does not always work either, but if i push it a couple times it always catches.

here it the question/s: is it a regulator? is it the switch? if it is the switch, is it driver side or passenger side?

Correct me if im wrong but the switch is replaced under the arm rest switch area, simple pry up. the regulator is behind the door panel. tape the door up and replace.

sorry for the long write up but i wanted to be descriptive

The only way to be certain is to backprobe the window switch and see if the voltage changes to power. If the switch is changing the voltage to power and the window doesnt move, its the motor/regulator. If you hit the button and the power doesnt switch, you have a bad switch. It will take some testing of each wire to make sure you have the correct wire from the switch going to the correct motor.

If you cant figure out which wire goes to which motor then you will need to pull the door panel and probe right at the motor.

I dont believe its your regulator . You can easily pull switches out and clean them where they connect, also clean and lubricate tracks if you believe it's getting stuck.
But I would definitely check for broken wires underneath boot between door and frame, they have a tendency to break after time from continuous bending. Start w rear door boot , pull out from one side and push back. You'll easily notice any bad wires if that's the issue. I had the same exact issue you did , all good once I reconnected wire on my 04 fx4.

its not the regulator... its either the switch or the motor is overheating..

Thanks, I'll check that when I get off today.

You get a chance to look at wires in boot between door and frame.

I did the same thing you did to try and fix it and it made it worse. Its the switch assembly. Just go to the dealership and if you have a Supercrew the Driver Switch assembly is ~$75. Then it'll be fixed up good as new!

Mine might be related, but my rear passenger window doesn't work at all using either the driver or rear passenger button. All other windows work, I will try to pull the door panel out and check the voltage on the connectors/switch, unless someone already knows the answer to this mistery.
