Default Winch

I am looking at winches and I am wandering if anybody has any input at all as to what size or brand to use. I am looking at the recon 10.5klb with synthetic rope. Any opinions??

Most of my friends including myself use warn winches. I'm pretty sure mines a 4 ton. Never heard anything bad about them.

Sure give me one sec to go get a picture of it with model number. To be honest with you, I try not to get myself into any situation where I can't get myself out but I've used it to pull out one of those 10 passenger grandma and grandpa vans. Their back tires were buried in our loose white sand here in PCB. I'll attach a pic of what they were in. Usually I pull someone out with straps, but I didn't have them so I used the winch.

Just looked up prices and they seems to be around $650

Ok sorry for the bad pics but its a little after midnight here so it's pitch black. But here's mine. It's the Warn m8000. I will also attach a pic of it on my truck so you can see its size in relation to the front of the truck. And a picture of the van I told you about that I used the winch for.

Cool deal man. Is that winch all sealed? I want one that can go under water and one with rope instead of cable for less weight

I would recommend at least a 10k winch preferably a 12k winch because depending on mods and cab/bed config our truck weigh in the neighborhood of sub 6k lbs. Mine weighs around 5700lbs

If you think you need a winch you are doing some serious off roading and you have to account for things like suction that the mud might apply on you if you get buried up to your frame in mud.

Some people say you don't need that powerful cuz you can use a ****** block to double the pulling power of your winch but guess what your cable strength is still the same so that doesn't really work.

Thanks bud I figured I added an extra 1k to gross weight of my truck but not sure on the weight from factory it's a 5.5 super crew 5.4. I'm hoping the 10.5klb will work well

A 10.5k will work well and definitely get the synthetic rope like you talked about earlier in the thread.

What are the benefits on the rope besides weight?
