Default Will this work? Trailer lights

Ok I have to pull my buddys trailer tomorrow and it has a 7 prong light/brake thing. I have the tow package with the right plug in and everything but I do not have a brake controler. My question is will the trailer lights work I know the brakes won't.

Yes, the lights will work. As you should always do before rolling out w/ a trailer, hook er up and check to she everything works. Blinkers, brakes, running lights... all should be checked prior to beginning the tow. Any of those not working will result in a ticket/fine if caught by the Polo's.

Alright thanks man. We have a mowing buisnus and have allways used my trailer but he bought one with two tailgates and I haven't pulled it yet. I'm glad I don't have to go pay 60 bucks for a controler in the morning altho I will need to get one soon.

I'm in landscaping too, and we are soon going to be upgrading to a bigger trailer (dual axle w/brakes). I was under the impression that one of the seven pins was for the trailer brakes - is that not the case?

The 7 pin is for both brakes and lights.

one of the 7 pins is for brakes BUT you have to have a controller for them to work because the brake system on a trailer will lock up at 12 volts and you dont want them to lock up when ever you barely tap the brakes.

^so does that mean I need a controler before I pull this trailer? If you don't have a controler will the brakes lock up everytime I tap my brakes?

No. If you don't have a controller then electric brakes simply won't do anything. In a 7 pole plug the blue wire is for the controller output. No controller = no voltage.
