munky, you might want to check into local shops who can do it... they're often cheaper than dealers and can put performance/tougher clutches in it for you, a friend of mine had it done in his car...
my 04 xlt has 155xxx miles on it and still shifts strong and smoothly... i bought it in december and since have had my trans, x case and both diffs flushed... i also had to have my rear axle seals and front output shaft seal replaced but i look at that as routine maintenance on a vehicle with that mileage... the last owner told me everything was original as well

Yeah I don't want to go the used route. Cause what's to say you don't get one that will just grenade like the stock one did. I'm calling a few shops locally today to see what kind of pricing I can get on a rebuild. Maybe now I can finally have my new gears & lsd installed.

2006 STX 4.6L here with 51k on it, no tow, no hard driving, and just had my trans fail over the weekend. Driving home from son's football game and out of nowhere loss of gears and "TRANS FAULT" flashing on the info display and OD OFF light blinking. Now it's sitting at the stealership waiting for them to get off their asses and look at it.
Also, would you guys w/ failing trannys please post your transmission code found on the inside of the door?

Just got off the phone with a reputable shop locally and they are going to do the work for $1,975 w/ 1yr warranty unlimited miles and 2-3 day turnaround. Still a nice chunk of change but I guess it's better than $3000+.

150 Tranny issue
I own a 2004 F-150 4x4. 61,000 miles on a 5.4. I actually had a Ford dealership tech tell me that there are 2 trannys used in this truck. As it turns out, the one that's in my truck is the same tranny that is used in the full size Ford and Mercury cars. I said "no way "! Yep, unless you order the heavier tranny when the truck is built, you will get a car tranny in your truck. Check it out for yourself. That could be a good reason for tranny failure in trucks. I have also had the spark plug problem ($600. repair bill) now I'm having the cam- phazer problem. That will cost me $1000. to repair. Kind of makes me want to switch brands. Dodge is looking good.

Dodge never looks good.I whave to work on those junks every day and they are definetly not better than a Ford. I would look at Gm or Toyota before a Dodge. I dislike Government Motors, I hate foreign makes but would take a foreign truck over a Dodge any day of the week. They should have went bankrupt
