Default WHY are our automatic transmissions failing??

theres gotta be almost two a week failing, it seems like. plus mine is on its way out.

at least when the old aod's would fail we knew it was because of the TV bushing coming off causing it to burn itself up.

so WHY is this happening? WHERE is the weak link?

It's time....these 04's to 08's are hitting the mileage to where they begin to fail if they were not maintained (I.E. trans flushes). If they were used to tow, and they did not have their fluid flushed, then they're going to break down.

There's always going to be the ones that fail prematurely, but for the most part, heat, poor maintenance are culprits when an auto transmission reaches the 80K and up mark.

For the record, I have 84K on mine, and it's doing fine. It's had two fluid flushes now, plus an aftermarket cooler.

cause everyone belives that if a truck breaks down its the companys fault when really its the owners fault for never maintaining it.

04 screw, 180,000miles, 1 trans filter, two flushes, no problems. Mixed tow, and non-tow. Don't ask about plugs, or rear ends.

I agree that time is catching up with these f150's. Bucko, it looks like I have a small factory tranny cooler. Enough or did you switch to aftermarket?
I have 13K on mine but I want to keep it in good a shape as possible!

Mines an aftermarket. I did not have a factory trans cooler, so a few days after purchasing it (used), I had the transmission flushed and the rear end fluid changed. Since then (a year later), I've installed an engine oil cooler as well. I plan to get over 200K with this truck; perhaps the used Raptors will be in my price range at that point!

With 40k miles in my 2005, i dont know if the previous owner did the transmission flush at 30k... either way, its 5 years, so i may just do it now. according to maintenance for the truck for the city, seems that you have to change the transmission oil every 30k.

I hear also a lot of complains about it, but all preventive i can see, is do the maintenance on time, transmission is a sensitive when not all maintenance done, and well, check the wire cables, not rubbing with parts or anything. im rewrapping them.

2006 STX 4.6L here with 51k on it, no tow, no hard driving, and just had my trans fail over the weekend. Driving home from son's football game and out of nowhere loss of gears and "TRANS FAULT" flashing on the info display and OD OFF light blinking. Now it's sitting at the stealership waiting for them to get off their asses and look at it.

84000 km on my 05. Seems to be running great but I just bought it a month ago. Going to get trans flushed this week. Only positive note here is that I bought the 4 year 80000 ford power train warranty from ford.
