Thumbs down Where is the "QUALITY"?

I am just wondering where the "QUALITY" went with Ford? I have a 04' FX4 with just over 21K. I have had lots of little problems.
  1. Month 1, driver's side window cable broke. 3 days in shop.
  2. Month 3, Rear window motor stopped working, in the shop for 1 week.
  3. Month 6, Dome light leaking into cab. 2 days in shop.
  4. Month 9, Rear window motor stopped working again. Another week in the shop.
  5. Month 11, Gas tank cap won't stay closed. 2 days in shop and paint got scratched during replacement. Had to take it back to get the paint redone, another 4 days in the shop!
  6. Month 14, passenger seat seam came apart and rear window motor quit working again. In the shop for 2 weeks, waiting on parts and a new seat.
  7. Month 18, Reverse backing system stopped working. 3 days in the shop. One day out of the shop and it quit working.
  8. Month 22, Loud grinding (gear spinning) from the left front wheel. Took it to the shop last week they wouldn't go on a road test so I could point it out. Come back from a business trip and to my SUPRISE they couldn't get it to make any noise. I drove out of the dealer and with in 5 minutes down the highway it started making the sound.
  9. The latest is the Shifter **** top button flew off the other day!
Anyone having any of these same types of problems. I am ready to give my truck back. I paid a high price for a truck I planned on having for along time, I am afraid this truck is not going to last.

While you have had an unfortunately great number of problems, I would place equal responsibility on the competency and expediting measures of your shop work. Just from browsing your described down time - I think the shop should have done better, a lot better!

You may consider filing a lemon complaint with Ford directly. Ford would not be one of the top, if not the top, selling truck if your experience was the norm.

I understand your frustration - a motor vehicle is the highest dollar investment most people make on a product that they know will depreciate. What you describe is not by any means typical, and I suggest you get FoMoCo notified as to any potential remedies. Good record-keeping such as you have described is a 'must' to back up your claims.

Dude that sucks, sorry to hear about your run of bad luck. I've found out that alot of ppl with a loaded F-150 have all types of elec problems. I've got an STX with power nothing, and I've talked to guys with problems like yours and they debate selling so that headache goes away. Are you gonna stay with the FX4, or head to the dealership, not to get your truck fixed, but for a trade in?

I forgot to add I also have a 97' EXPEDITION XLT, 4X4, it has 101K. The only thing I have had to replace was the Alternator and a 2 Batteries. I wish I bought two of them! That is why I am wondering what happened to the "Quality"?

Sorry to hear about your troubles.I have a 2007 4x4 crew and that scares me a bit. Years ago I worked with an old man who was a Ford assembly line worker in the old days in the Dallas Ford plant. He offered some advice which may still ring true..."Never buy a vehicle the first year after a major redesign...they don't get all of the bugs out until year two or three".Had a 2001 with over 100,000 miles and it was flawless except for normal maintenance. Good luck...

My O6, The Gas Gauge Quick Working For A Few Days Then It Started Working Again. My 2001 Supercrew I Had Sucked. Had It 6 Months And The Rear End Locked Up. Took It To Dealer, Was There For 2 Weeks, And When I Pulled It Out Of The Bay It Locked Up Again. It Took Another 2 Weeks. I Was Very Upset. Then I Started Having All Kinds Of Problems So I Went Back To General Motors. Know I'm Back Cause My Gm Was Having Electrical Problems So I Got Rid Of It.

I am on the same boat. I have an 04 lariat 4x4. I have always been a ford guy. I guess that is why I am searching ford forums now. by the way hows it going guys... My rear window also went out, it will work when ever it feels like it. What worries me more is the darn noise that is coming from under the truck. It sounds like a sproket has come loose and wants to get back into place. The noise will only go away if you come to a stop. I have the same identical problems you are having. What the hell is that noise? It will come on when you least expect it. Sad thing is my truck has 83,000 miles no warranty left. Sorry for thread jacking.
