Default When to get tuner?

Should I get a tuner now? Will I need to get new tunes every time I change something?

Should I wait til I get a CAI? Wait til I get a new exhaust? Wait til I lower my truck? Wait til I get E-fans? Wait til I get UD Pulleys? Wait til I get HIDs? Don't want to be constantly buying more tunes.

I must be missing something.

You only need new tunes if you do something to change the performance of the truck itself. Gears, Intake, exhaust, efans = yes. Underdrive pulleys ( since they simply free up static power ) and all the rest = no.

A lot of it depends on where you get your tune too. A good number of places will update your existing tune for you free of charge when you add a mod.

Hmm, alright. So it won't self-adjust, and I will need to get tunes every time I upgrade performance... So I'm adding $30 to every mod? Hrmph...

You sure I won't need a new tune for HIDs?

No need to tune for HID's. But I am ordering my Gryphon tomorrow morning. I waited til I had my CAI and exhaust on before i bought it. Maybe just put those mods on first. Ill be putting E fans on mine, but its a while down the road and i want the programmer more.

HID's have no effect whatsoever on the performance of the vehicle and since they're a ug and play part, no change is needed. Depending on the tuner you get there shouldn't be any additional cost. I know some tuners you can add custom tunes to it then just change along the way so if you get one done for a final tune, all performance mods installed, and have a moderate tune installed as well for the time in between, you should be perfectly fine

Sarcasm doesn't come across well on forums =)

So if I get a tuner now, then do the CAI and exhaust, there won't be any negative effects? Then when I do the e-fans, get a new tune then?

Most people will agree that a "CAI" will require an adjustment/tuner because of the relocation of the MAF. That's why many will do the "gotts" mod instead of getting a "CAI" (as well as the dollar savings). Get the tuner whenever you want. I've got a Gryphon and have done the gotts and am pleased with the results. If I do more stuff down the road I will get an updated tune, but only after I do all the mods. I'm saving for a couple things at the moment- e-fans & LT headers.

No. You dont NEED a tune for exhaust, you can run just the exhaust and be fine. To get MAX POWER out of the exhaust, a tune will do that.

For example, say you get a catback exhaust. Box says adds 8 to 15 horses. Stand alone by itself, adds 8. In combination with a intake, exhaust and tune, adds 15 for the exhaust alone. It's all a combination of what you are running.
