Well so far I have found a few useful threads. It seems like if they are done right they are perfectly safe and some are even stronger than the wheels you'd be mounting to them. But a lot of people are terrified of them because of a few horror stories of poorly manufactured spacers or non-hubcentric ones.

anyway heres links to the threads.

I've got them on my truck, after much debating, I pulled the trigger. I've only got them on the front now, as i only bought 2 to make sure they would work. I put them on when i did my shocks, and i used a torque wrench to torque them down to 150 ft/lbs which is what Ford wants their wheels torqued to. I beat the snot out of them at first off road to see how they were, and they were fine. checked them after 300 miles and they were still just as tight, with no problems. And for all the people who says it will mess up your front end, they do the same thing an aftermarket wheel with a different off-set would do, so that doesn't concern me.
Here's the link to the ones i bought from ebay...

that's the one problem, i couldn't find spidertrax brand ones that would fit our trucks. A friend has spidertrax on his jeep and that's what i orginally wanted.
