Wheel spacers will definitely give you the look your going for. I have never had a problem with them but some people seem to have. Its a cheap way to get the look you want. I say go for it.

Wheel spacers would def. give you what you want but the spacing would be on you depending on how much you want to come out. And you'll have to replace you're studs to accommodate the extra width you're going for.

I don't have a set on my truck right now but I had an 1.5" set on an old truck. Do a search online and you will probably find some good deals.

I'm curious if you ever followed through with this also. This idea was just brought to my attention last night instead of sinking $900 into XD's to get the option of an aftermarket offset.
Let me know if you installed it yourself, and the sizing you did.

If you are going to do this, and I don't recommend it, go with wheel adapters rather than spacers. I'm assuming you want to move the wheel out 1" to 1 1/2". By using an adapter, you use the existing lug nuts to fasten the adapter, then use the adapter's studs to secure the wheel. You eliminate studs that would be too long, but you still exert more leverage on your wheel bearings this way.

6,000 miles on 2 inch spacers no problems.
The spacers plus -12 offset 17x9 fuels

You'll be wider on the 04-08 front end and depending what wheel.
