Looks like an oiling issue. Time for a new engine.

Welp I guess that explains how all those roller followers fell out... Looks like probably sustained loss of oil pressure

I just wonder what a new head with bearings/rollers/lashs would cost diy . Then you have to replace oil pump and what else . Do you have some other blockage in galleries.

I'd be afraid of all that metal floating around inside the engine. Even if it is aluminum.

I'd look for a reman engine at this point, if the rest of the truck is worth it and you're gonna keep it a long time.

I was considering the idea of having a contaminated motor too. If the motor were torn down and cleaned with new mains and rods and all the galleries flushed out, new heads and a rebuild would be great.
But to slap on a new set of heads/cams and timing gear sounds like a situation to get a person through a shorter period of time and increased wear.
Maybe the oil filter will just collect it all but I can imaging wear on the mains and rods......and that same dirty oil will be bathing the new top end parts.
It's a very difficult situation to be in. It will work but it may reduce the longevity of the motor. I guess depends too on what you use the vehicle for and for how much longer you plan on driving. This is the point in time to ask yourself if the rebuild cost is going to marry you to the truck or if maybe it's time to pick up a good crate motor or consider replacement.
I take threads like this as if it were my dad. No way would he give up. None of his vehicles have ever been worked on by others. Growing up, neither were mine. My car ended up with a rebuilt motor. We rebuilt 3 of the family cars, etc. Even today, His 1992/1993 car would probably get rebuilt if the motor failed. It is a decision each person has to make. I considered a rebuild on my old 302 motor, around 2006 or 2008 and the cost of a rebuilt motor (done by an engine shop) was about 4x the cost of what I paid last for rebuilding a motor at home many years earlier. It wasn't cost effective for me to build a new motor in an otherwise older vehicle.

If the gasket kit isn't opened I think they could be returned, same for the hard parts, I guess. However, last time I was into a motor we didn't have an internet thing to source pats. We had to pick them up from the human on the other side of the counter. Those parts could go back into inventory -but I don't know if Amazon or automotive parts houses offer the same return policies as back in the 90's? I guess it was.

Good luck on whatever you choose. It's quite a spectacular series of damage on those cam journals. Amazing it ran based simply on the wear appearance.

my thoughts ??? https://www.ebay.com/itm/16391534260...53.m1438.l2649 this along with dropping the oil pan and give a through cleaning... it's an additional 499 as opposed to 3to 4 thousand for a motor... I'm not in a place to spend thousands but I dont want to waste 1500 either .... ????

Well I wasn't clear on this but just wanted a ball park for a new head with everything. That would be a deciding factor to take a chance on a rebuild if I already had parts.
I lean towards a reman for sure. I don't lean towards a new truck if the rest of this truck in good shape .
You could ebay your parts . I don't think I would put 2000 + in this engine, it is to bad to chance. Even if I lost 300 or so selling parts it makes more sense to get a 3200 reman with a warranty . I would hate to see you have a massive rebuild failure with tons of labor , this warrants borrowing money to do it right. Sometimes life kicks your butt .
