[QUOTE=dykzeulb;2546111]Well...I just turned over 65k on my 05 screw king ranch, and it has been a pretty good haul this far with no issues, I went to pass a car today and however it was not so good, truck started to stumble on wot, and the engine light started to flash, after passing the car, I returned to normal speeds and the light went off an normal again, I tried to replicate it by kicking it in the *** from 55 and got up to 80 with no sputter. It's done this before but has never really concerned me as it hasn't been a safety issue like today. I have replaced the fuel filter 2 months ago, replaced plugs, and maintain the truck very well. Any idea? There isn't a solid light, so I am thinking I won't have a code to scan, correct?

Help guys' I need to get the ole girl driving right ![/QUO

You WILL have a code stored, have it pulled and find out what it is. Hit and miss trouble shooting and repairs can get expensive pretty fast.

Forgot to mention mine had the check engine light come on twice before we changed the plugs. When we did the plugs we also changed all the boots on the plugs. Did exactly the same as yours except my light was solid both times but would go off after a minute or two. I took it for a full diagnostic at a place by my house for free (in hopes that you get the work done with them I'm sure.) where they told me it was an intermittent misfire. Refused to do the plugs since they're prone to breaking and wished me luck. Haha. But yeah if there's a code stored or if you can run a full diagnostic you'd be better off than just starting replacing stuff unless you decide to just change the plug boots since they're pretty cheap.

Had this happen on my old 5.4, flashing light, stumble and it was indeed coil packs. Bought 8 off ebay for about $90. Fixed.

There was no code stored, so I guess I need to try to replicate it.

You could try changing the coil packs and boots and see if that fixes it. It's a relatively cheap try.

Its either the COP's or the cats...take your pick...COP's would be my first choice...look at your cats after a long drive ...see if they are extremely hot or even glowing red...this will tell you ... you may have a clogged cat...I would suspect a coil pack has gone bad though. With no code set its hit and miss unless you change all 8...good luck

Hi, I had the same thing happen (sort of) to me when I had 40k miles on mine. I was driving on the freeway and all of a sudden I lost power. The engine didn't die but the rpm's dropped down to "idle". I coasted down the down ramp. Shut the car off, re-started it and it was fine. While on the way to the dealer, it happened again. It turned out to be a Throttle Body something (can't read the invoice description), Ford part # S8L329F926. The part alone was $280 and the labor was another $150. Luckily for me, when I bought the truck when It was 1.5 years old, I took out the extended warranty.

Oh, also my engine light flashed but went off when I re-started it. The code was stored. Hope this helps.

It is a coil, plain and simple. Take it to a ford dealer they will figure it out right away, guarantee it.

If you take it to a dealer you're likely to pay 10x's what it would cost to get a full diagnostic and replace the COPs yourself. I think the dealer charges $500 to run a diagnostic which is what they'll want to do to check it out. Whereas a auto shop can run the same diagnostic for like $100 and can tell you the same thing.
