Default what is this fluid?

soo i was unloading some stuff at my house from the bed of the truck and just happened to look at the right wheel and there was a fluid just layered all over in inner part of the wheel. it was kinda redish purplish brown? idk what it is can anyone please help? and soon??!?!?!

Sounds like brake fluid, but need more details.

same thing that i thought but i checked the fluid under the hood and it was right were it should have been?

Where is it coming out of? Does anything look wet? If its an axle seal it should be all over the inside of the tire and rim.

Yep sounds like brake fluid to me...and it's probably just out of the lines and may not have taken any from the reservoir yet

its all over everywhere inside the rim is caked the plastic rotor guard is covered with dirt like thick so im guessing it has been leaking a little bit but today it was just like a puddle

You would feel a brake fluid leak in the peddle, looks like an axle seal. Add diff fluid untill you get it fixed. A $5 seal is alot easier than a $500 differential.

I have done many on the old 9 inch rears and it was easy. I havent done one on the newer rears, hopfully its the same. On the 9 inch you removed the drum brake assembly and pulled the axle shaft out. The seal just pulls out of the axle tube(sometimes needed a hook) and push in the new one.

What year/model truck do you have
