Default What could be leaking?

Thick and black. Behind front tire on driver side. Does not smell like engine oil, yet seems to be coming from above the front differential. Any ideas? Just showed up with our very cold weather (-20F).

Thank you!

It is engine oil, I found out when I looked closer after work.

It's really strange. I have never seen a vehicle do this before, but I believe that it leaked from the dipstick tube.

I bought the truck not long ago and have yet to change the oil so I am not sure that weight is in it, but I am wondering if the PCV valve stuck with the cold weather, or it just needs to be replaced.

What engine do you have? The 5.4l doesn't have a replaceable PCV. Its built into the drivers side valve cover. Could it freeze up? Possibly.
Is the o ring on the dipstick?
Other things I can think of would be valves, or piston blow-by. That would suck.

Definitely check your levels, that's a lot of whatever it is.

Yes, its the 5.4L 3V.

The dipstick has the O-ring. The oil level was not bad, it was at the bottom of the hatch marks on the dipstick.

I will check the throttle body blade for build-up, but blow-by would not cause a leak above the manifold unless a gasket fails, yea? If it was blow-by, especially that much, the truck would be smoking, I think, and it does not. As well as having used more oil than the level indicated. I am not a mechanic, just handy and without surplus income, so I could be missing something there too.

I appreciate the input fellas!

And, yes, the oil will be changed this weekend. I just hate paying someone else to do what I would be doing if I had a garage, or if it were nicer out.

Default You need to see if your crankcase getting pressurized

Maybe drivers valve cover baffle clogged or tube to throttle body clogged, I cleaned mine with brake cleaner and dawn . It could be freezing and partial clog there is a heater circuit for that and driver side tube is insulated . Drivers valve cover gasket could be leaking . Rtv is supposed to be put on metal joints during assembly or it will leak .
Yes I would clean TB and hoses to make sure pcv circuit can get pressure out of crankcase . Check your spark wells for oil . Lastly if ring blowby you need compression test wet and dry .
