Default What is "acceptable"...

When you folks pay for a part off of a classifieds ad and pay with Pay Pal, what is an "acceptable time that you expect the seller to ship the part?

I bought a part from a differnt Ford forum than this. The seller and I agreed on a price that included shipping costs. I promptly paid him that same day (before noon) with Pay Pal. After 6 days, I contacted the seller, and he informed me "he shipped it last night". I commented to him that I felt 6 days after he accepted my payment to ship was unreasonable. It is a small part (to protect the seller, I won't mention what the part is), but it easily fits within a bubble type envelope. He used the U.S. Post office to mail it off. Had it been a large part requiring a large box, and/or special shipping arrangements, I'd be much more understanding. This is a small item though.

He stated that I was being impatient, and that 1 to 2 days shipping is "common" on Ebay. I totally agree with him on the 1 to 2 days; my gripe was that he waited 6 days after accepting my payment before he shipped.

I normally would not be that concerned, but I travel quite a bit. When I do buy, it is when I have a "window" of time that I know I'll be home to expect the package.

So, am I out of line here for that this seller waited 6 days after recieving and accepting Pay Pal to ship via U.S. post office?

I am in total agreement with you, I get burned everytime in situations like this. Am hearing my father speak, "to quick old, to late smart". Perhaps, all is well and part is "in the mail".

thats way too long. i would have told him that 6 days is more than 1-2 business days. if it was me i would have shipped it out that same day as soon as i got the payment. maybe im just weird about that stuff but hey at least its shipped.

Well, you just met another ignorant person in this world. 1 to 2 days is adequate. He took his time and didnt care, because he already had your money and their was no way to leave feedback. Ive heard stories where people keep the money and never send the item. Just be glad he sent the item.

I think that is way too long. Once you make the payment, it should be shipped within 1 day, anything more and it almost looks like a scam or a very lazy person. Regardless, it should be in the mail as soon as the money is received. Just my 2c.

Im going out on a limb and say that communication is key. A week is a longer than normal time but did you inform him you needed it ASAP or are you just assuming he knows when you need it? Did he inform you how long it would take him to ship it? If not, thats his error.
My point is, you need to talk to each other if theres going to be any unusual circumstances.
Ive bought and sold alot of stuff over the net. If I need an item right away I make a point of mentioning it. If sell something and wont be able to ship it immediately, I inform the buyer before the sell so he knows. This clears up alot of issues before they become issues. Many companies advertise "next day shipping". I do get peeved when they dont come through the next day, not because two or three days is unreasonable but because they said they would ship it next day. Its all about communication.

If the guy shipped it via USPS and it fit into an envelope he should have been able to get it out within a day or two. It's easy to purchase and print postage online and slap it onto an envelope. I'd be pissed if someone sat on something I bought for almost a week before shipping it.

Good point to make Ray H.... No, I did not tell him I was in a hurry , or that I was leaving soon for my trip.

I just assumed that when the payment was accepted via Pay Pal by him, he would have sent it out within a day (or two) at the latest. In this particular deal, Payment was accepted on a Thursday, and the U.S. Post office is open Friday and Saturday. He informed me that it went out on Monday, as he does not ship on Saturday. I'm understanding of that. He did inform me that he deals quite a bit on Ebay (several years), with a perfect feedback.

In the past 5 years or so dealing with forum sales, Ebay sales, and the like, this is the first time I've experienced this sort of situation (a delayed shipment after prompt payment). Lesson learned for me.

I do have a purchase agreement with another seller from this forum. He was VERY CLEAR that I am on a list, and that he builds the item to order, so many per week. He also stated he is a family man with another job, and that he puts the family first. I accepted these terms, and made payment to him. He makes an excellent product, and since I know the rules going in, I knew when to expect to receive the item.

I will ask about shipment prior to making payment next time. I sent him an apology for expecting it would have shipped Friday or Saturday without my making prior arrangements or expectations first. At least I was not alone in thinking it would have shipped that Friday or Saturday. Again, I did not clear this with the seller, and found that he does not make normal trips to the post office on Saturday.

Thanks to all for the comments and education. Hopefully all buyers and sellers can gain some insite from this post, and can avoid any conflict by using simple communication on these transactions.

Well now let's let "another ignorant person" speak for the record.

Payment was sent via Paypal on Wednesday evening. I saw the confirmation for this payment before I left for work Thursday morning. Package was sent first thing Monday morning. That is two days after I confirmed payment. Saturday can't be included because nothing actually ships on Saturday. It would have sat at the PO until Monday anyway. And obviously Sunday can't be included. That is hardly six days. I explained to him that I had other packages going to the PO so I had my wife send them all at once instead of making several trips. I also explained that I work long hours and am not close to a PO so I can't just pop in at any time. I do not think that two days is that long of a wait time to ship. I have been selling on ebay and several different forums for over 12 years and never have had a complaint about ship time. Not one until now. Sometimes if it is convienent items can go out the very next day. Sometimes that isn't possible and it may be an extra day. People in general understand. I have explained to him that if I had shipped it Friday instead of Monday it would only have got to him one day sooner. That is hardly the six days that I am being accused of.
